ABOUT GREEN ABU DHABI 2010

Green Abu Dhabi 2010 is a three week art show focusing on educating the community about the environment and sustainability. The initiative is a call to action and invites the entire UAE community to ‘paint the town green.’ This can be as simple as recycling and switching off lights when they are not needed, to mobilising members of your immediate community to initiate wider pr grammes such as beach clean ups. Green Abu Dhabi 2010 aims to become an annual community event working from a grass roots level with schools up to the highest level decision maker. This year the initiative has commissioned 5 selected Emerging artists in the city of Abu Dhabi to create and sell new work focused on certain points on the environment and sustainable development. They will be the mouthpiece, they will speak to the city directly about what it means to “Paint the Town Green” to them.

Along with the main Art exhibit, Green Abu Dhabi will also reach out to the community through mini-events. This year we have 4 planned mini-events that will take place during our 3 week exhibition. The first to take place will be a Mangrove Cleanup in the city of Abu Dhabi. The second will be a Community Art Auction in Abu Dhabi. The third will be a Community Art Auction in Sharjah. And finally the last will be a Painted Tiles Mural created by as many kids in as many schools for the city of Abu Dhabi.

Additionally a percentage of all sales of artwork and merchandise sold will go to the WWF-EWS, the Future Center of Abu Dhabi, and the Sharjah Humanitarian City with whom Green Art Abu Dhabi aims to establish a new program for the city of Abu Dhabi this year with the help of proceeds from this show.
